ART SCHOOL MANIFESTO

This was my entry into the 2014 International Society of Typographic Designers Student Brief Competition.

Problem – Write a Manifesto for the Art School. It must contain at least 500 words of text matter, and it must communicate your vision of the future.

Solution – I’m of the mindset that even when you’re done school, that you never stop learning, or at least to me you shouldn’t. So with that in mind, I researched manifestos, what made them great, what about them were terrible, and tried to compile a list of do’s and don’ts for declarations. From there I went about writing and editing the manifesto, which was something that was not exactly required for the competition but it was something that I felt should be done.

Once the manifesto was written, I tried to figure out the best way to represent it and the best way that others could view it and more importantly engage with it. I ended up making two things, a poster as a physical object that could be hung up and interacted with in a physical space, as a way to get people talking about it as well as seeing it.

The other aspect was to build a website for the manifesto itself, a virtual place where people could engage and discuss not only the manifesto but also share knowledge and what should be changed about the manifesto, as all proclamations need to be contested and updated for the changing times.
